Turtle Beach Stealth Pro II Review: Best Multi-Console Headset, With a Headband We Would Fix
CrossPlay 2.0 switches between a PC, a PlayStation and an Xbox without re-pairing, and two swappable batteries mean it never dies. Comfort and build hold back an otherwise excellent $349.99 headset.
The verdict
For a home with a PC, a PlayStation and an Xbox, nothing switches between them as easily as the Stealth Pro II. Two swappable 40-hour batteries, a very good detachable mic and solid ANC justify most of the $349.99. The weak points are a thin headband that tires you after about two hours and a build we do not fully trust. Great for short, serious sessions.
Best forHouseholds sharing one headset across a PC and several consoles
What we liked
- CrossPlay 2.0 switches between up to four devices from a single dock
- Two 40-hour swappable batteries give effectively endless play, with one charging in the dock
- Detachable 9mm boom mic sounds among the best on a gaming headset
- 60mm Eclipse dual drivers with Hi-Res wireless audio at 24-bit/96kHz on PC
- Strong ANC, with 81% average attenuation measured by SoundGuys
What we did not
- Thin suspension headband and 393g weight cause fatigue around two hours
- Headband adjustment needs force, and long-term durability is in doubt
- Bass and treble peaks can sound sibilant in long sessions
- At $349.99 it costs more than rivals, and extra transmitters cost extra
Most headsets are built around one console and tolerate the rest. The Stealth Pro II is built around a living room where the PlayStation is under the TV, the Xbox is in the bedroom and a PC sits in the study. That is a real situation, and this is the first headset that handles it without a fight.
What CrossPlay 2.0 does
The headset ships with a dock and a transmitter. The CrossPlay 2.0 button on the cup moves the audio from one device to another, and Turtle Beach says it supports up to four. One transmitter and the dock come in the box, and extra transmitters are sold separately. It works with PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, Windows 10 and later, and Bluetooth phones.
TechRadar's testers used the button over several weeks to move between a Windows PC and a PS5 and found it reliable, with a wireless range of about 80 feet. That matches what we want from the feature: you press, the sound moves, and you do not re-pair anything.
Be clear on the limit, though. Four devices is a ceiling, not a promise. You will need to buy a second transmitter for a second console, so the real cost of a multi-console setup is above $349.99.
Batteries that never run out
Here is the feature that sells this headset to us. The box has two swappable battery packs, each rated at 40 hours by Turtle Beach. One sits in the headset while the other charges in the dock, so you swap them when the first runs low. SoundGuys measured 41 hours and 8 minutes on a single charge with noise cancelling on, which beats the claim.
For a streamer, a competitive player or a family sharing one headset, that ends battery anxiety. For everyone else, it is a luxury that you notice for the first week and then take for granted.
The mic, and the noise cancelling
The detachable 9mm microphone is unidirectional and uses internal beamforming. SoundGuys called it one of the best they have heard on a gaming headset, with one catch: it sounds better with the AI noise reduction switched off. The mic connects over mini-USB rather than 3.5mm, so you cannot swap in another boom.
